A DEBATE on how to regenerate a town centre in Monmouthshire will be chaired by Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay.
The debate, organised by Abergavenny & District Civic Society, aims to look at how Abergavenny can retain and enhance its competitive edge.
Mr Ramsay is chairman of the enterprise and business committee, which published its report Regenerations of Town Centres last year. The report, which features 21 recommendations, recognises that vital, vibrant town centres are at the heart of sustainable communities and are core to a healthy and prosperous Welsh economy.
Mr Ramsay will present the key findings which also recognise that the High Street is no longer the prime retail space it once was due to an increase in online and out-of-town shopping and a change in consumer behaviour.
To face these challenges the solution needs a local, integrated and sustainable approach.
Other speakers at the debate include Fiona Beavan, of Abergavenny Business Club and Dave Bevan, head of economy and enterprise at Monmouthshire council. The debate takes place at 7.30pm in St Michael’s Centre, Pen y Pound, on Monday, February 11.
