TELEVISION rugby pundit Rick O’Shea is the new patron for St David’s Hospice Care.

Mr O’Shea, who has been a key figure within the world of rugby for many years and is also a newly qualified doctor, will support the work of the Newport-based charity which provides hospice-athome palliative care for patients facing the end of life.

He said: “St David’s provides expert care and support for patients and their families at the most difficult of times and gives people the opportunity to make the decision to die at home.

“When medical or surgical intervention is no longer an option, the absolute priority is making the patient comfortable and, where possible, allowing them to face this final challenge at home.

“St David’s are truly leading in this area.”

Chief executive of St David’s Hospice Care Emma Saysell said: “It’s fantastic to have such a high-profile figure show his support for us and I’m sure Rick will help to raise awareness of St David’s Hospice Care throughout Wales.

“On behalf of everyone at St David’s, I would like to thank Rick for his support.”
