A NEW primetime TV series which could rival Doctor Who is to be filmed at a studio in Chepstow, creating up to 140 jobs.

Atlanti, a new action-packed family adventure series, will be filmed by the creators of Misfits.

As we revealed last month, a London-based production company has been commissioned to film a series in an empty warehouse but details were kept firmly under wraps – until now.

Howard Overman productions Ltd behind Merlin, New Tricks, Hustle and Hotel Babylon, plans to begin filming by April ahead of the first transmission of the 13-part fantasy series in September.

Part of the former Tesco cold store building on the Newhouse Farm Industrial Estate is being converted into a TV studio by Little Monster Films Limited in a major property deal. Work to build the set on the 155,000sq ft warehouse has already begun.

Tom Gibbons, of Bristol-based property consultancy firm TG Commercial said: “We are delighted with the result as not only is this a very exciting venture but it will also bring tremendous investment and employment opportunities to the area, with up to 140 staff servicing the facility.”

The jobs news is welcome after the body blow of up to 150 posts being axed at Tesco’s Magor distribution centre.

Chepstow councillor Armand Watts said: “It’s an exciting prospect for Chepstow.”

All filming locally will be inside the building. Location filming will be in Morocco.

Fantasy tale set in Atlantis THE BBC Cymru Wales series, produced by Howard Overman, Johnny Capps and Julian Murphy, is set in the legendary sunken City of Atlantis.

The action-packed story centres around Jason, who arrives in the city where an amazing journey begins amid a vast store of Greek myths and legends re-imagined for a new generation.

The cast is still under wraps but it is believed Robert Emms will play young mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras.
