A NEWPORT nursery has been recognised for its efforts to get children healthy.

Lullabyz Nursery, Newport, which opened last October, won a national competition run by the National Day Nursery Association (NDNA) to be chosen as the healthiest nursery.

Lullabyz, in Tregare Street, is owned by Nicola Reed, 34, of Newport, and managed by Louise Touhig, 36, of Blaenavon, both qualified primary school teachers, who between them have more than 20 years’ experience of working with children.

The nursery entered the competition with the challenge of encouraging the children to take part in daily healthy activities such as hand washing, teeth brushing and physical activities, to promote the message ‘healthy body, healthy me.’ Mrs Reed, a mother of two, said: “Our motto is childcare at its best, and winning the competition demonstrates that.

“We have 60 children at the nursery aged between five months and eight years, and they all took part in the daily activities.

“The children get free milk every day and so the competition’s character,  Amoolea The Cow, came to meet the children. They loved it.”
