STAFF at a Newport pub donned their exercise gear yesterday as they cycled, ran and rowed 140 miles for the Clic Sargent children’s cancer charity.

But they didn’t leave the Queens Hotel on Bridge Street as they used running machines, cross-trainers, bikes and rowing machines donated by Fitness 4 Less gym to travel the equivalent distance to Watford where their headquarters is based.

Throughout the day there were homemade cakes and pastries for sale and the pub will be running a raffle until June 1.

Tickets cost £1 and prizes include Newport County tickets, a signed Gwent Dragons ball and tickets, and a L’Oreal hamper worth £200.

The pub, which employs 45 people and has been open for four years in July, has raised £22,000 for Clic Sargent in that time and hopes to raise at least £1,000 from Monday’s event alone.
