FOUR wines produced in Tintern were award winners in the English and Welsh wine of the year competition.

Parva Farm Vineyard’s red Ty Coch and sparkling Dathliad both received silver medals and their rosé Bwythyn Rhosyn and sparkling rosé gained bronze awards.

The business is run by Colin and Judith Dudley, who have won many accolades for their products. But they say success is sweeter this time.

Mrs Dudley said: “We were especially pleased to have been awarded a silver medal for the red wine as the weather in recent summers has made it difficult to ripen the red grapes.”

Mr Dudley added: “The silver medal for the sparkling wine was also very pleasing as English and Welsh sparkling wines have a very good reputation now and this award shows ours is up with the best.”

The Dudleys are now hoping for a good summer to produce plenty of grapes.

An awards ceremony will take place in the House of Commons at the end of July.

The competition was held at Halfpenny Green Vineyard, in Worcestershire, last month.
