WITH scorching temperatures predicted for this weekend, it is expected the annual Machen Agricultural Show will bring out families from across Gwent to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the show.

The fun for all the family event, which is being held tomorrow, features everything from cider pressing and anvil forge blacksmithing to dog shows and a knock-out tractor pull.

From pygmy goats to horses and ponies, a variety of animals will be put on show and providing demonstrations to the thousands of visitors who are expected to visit Mill Farm in Machen.

The agricultural show was founded in 1941 by the late Henry John and began as a gymkhana and horse show to raise funds for the Home Service Comforts Fund, a charity which helped troops serving abroad.

Classes for horses, ponies, rabbits, pigeons and poultry (incorporating Welsh Oxford Game Club Show).

Children will also have the chance to meet and find out more about owls, tortoises and tropical animals.

They will also have the chance to take a ride on a miniature railway and mini quad bikes and take part in children’s races, including a 6-Legged Scurry.

For older members of the family there’s vintage machinery and have-a-go archery.

Music will be provided by the Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen Junior Band.
