IT MIGHT have been a blow for some events organisers, but those behind Castell Roc have turned a ban on serving alcohol for one night into a real positive.

After being told that they could only have an alcohol licence for four days at a time, the organisers decided to run one night as a Prohibition night.

And given that the act on August 27 will be the Rat Pack, it seemed to fit perfectly.

Organiser Carol Mutlow said that as the original Rat Pack members like Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davies were born in the Prohibition period, the night would be themed that way.

She said: “We have turned it into a positive.

“There will be no alcohol sold, people will have to bring their own. We will be serving soft drinks and picnics are welcomed.

“So don’t forget to bring your own moonshine!”

Prohibition in the United States was a national ban on the sale, production, and transport of alcohol, from 1920 to 1933.

Speakeasies soon appeared, where alcohol was drunk out of sight of the law.

Castell Roc were told that rules dictating an alcohol licence can only be used for four days at one time and their event runs for eight.

The music festival is on from August 24 to 31.

Week by week, it has been announced who is performing on each night.

Max Boyce, the Jive Aces, and the Brit Floyd tribute band are just three of the acts expected to thrill crowds.

Tickets for The Rat Pack are £12 in advance, or £15 on the gate.

They can be purchased from Hannah’s Music, Chepstow tourist information centre or castellroc.
