A GROUP of volunteers worked on awaterworks project in Cwmbran on the Monmouthshire to Brecon canal.
The group are made up from community volunteers and the national volunteer group Waterway Recovery Group, with some members coming from as far as France to help in the restoration project.
The works are part of the wider waterworks project which is taking place on the Ty Coch Flight funded by Heritage lottery and Torfaen County Borough Council.
Over the three years, the project aims to restore eight locks around 1.5km of the canal.
The community volunteers who are helping to restore the canal as well as learning heritage construction skills in stone masonry, carpentry and environmental conservation with the long term hope of finding employment.
The leader of Torfaen council, cllr Bob Wellington, said: “It is great that so many volunteers have joined together to work on this important project.
"The canal is an important part of the heritage of South East Wales, the waterworks project will provide a lasting legacy and resource for local communities in Torfaen and visitors to the area."
