Fifty-four young artists have been shortlisted for the Gwent Young Artist of the Year award 2013.

The South Wales Argus in partnership with the University of South Wales and the Riverfront have been searching for young artists since the competition was launched in September. All of the artist shortlisted will have their work showcased at the four-week-long exhibition at the Riverfront, Newport.

Judges from sponsors, the University of South Wales, Newport City Council's art department and the Argus selected their shortlist of 54 works. The artists include Isobell Godsell, Katie Walker, Mia Rose Jeremiah, Jazzmin Allen, Chloe James, Anwen Smart, Ellie James, Iefan Lewis, Luci-Ann Clark, Lewis Windsor, Jess McMail, Lowri Gill, Alexander Punt, Aimee Ford, Thomas James Bewley, William Morris, Daniel Williams, Jymeela Lewis, Ayshe Sager, Georgia-Mae Clark, Crystin Gamble, Elby Hillman, Ariel Gyori, Bethan Rowe, Lucy Marshall, Shelbie Night, Ian Andrews, Sophie May Haggerty, Sammy Thomas, Tegan Emily Haggerty, Samuel Davies, Thomas-Jay Giles, Chloe Giles, Casey-Leigh Prosser, Charlotte Frances Evans, Nicky Brazel, Emily-Jean Griffiths, Sophie Bartlett, Morgan Masters, Nia Taillor, Sasha Fowler, Lauren Churchill, Jennifer Morris, Elinor Griffiths, Oliver Larkins, Fiona Fessey, Emma Curthoys, Laura Donovan, Amy Hart, Junelle Balanon, Eve Morell, Amelia Louise Morgan, Molly Cooper, Aran Brown.

The University of South Wales will award the £1,500 prize money to be shared between the overall winner and winners and runners-up in three age groups, which include eight- years- old and under, 9-12 years, and 13-18 years. New to this years competition is the Gallery Visitors Favourite award voted by the public who visit the exhibition.

The exhibition is currently on display at the Riverfront and the winner of the Young Artist Award will be announced on the last exhibition day, November 23, at a presentation ceremony at the Riverfront at 3pm.
