A KEEN Newport knitter has joined an initiative to create knitted breast for women who have had mastectomies.
Anne Phillips, 58, of Brynglas Road, is involved in Knitted Knockers UK, a country-wide initiative offering women who have had treatment for breast cancer, knitted and crochet inserts to put into their bras. The initiative started in America and has around 440 members in the UK.The knitted inserts are 100 per cent cotton not to rub any scarring
Mrs Phillips, a Riverfront Theatre worker, said: “I have not personally had cancer but lots of family members and friends have had cancer. There have been lots of fuss over silicone inserts and many women are bit more cautious over them, it’s nice that they can have an alternative.”
The inserts come in a variety of colours and are sent for free by the volunteers.
