NEWPORT youngsters took part in an event promoting equal opportunities.
The event was part of Black History Month, which is celebrated as a way to recognise the contribution Africa has made to science art, philosophy and religion.
Held at the University of South Wales’ Newport City Campus, the event aimed to raise the aspirations of young people towards being more engaged in promoting equal opportunities for all local residents.
Pupils from St Woolos Primary School performed at the event, which also included a showcase of artwork from children attending local schools or who are involved in youth projects in the area.
There was an African storytelling session and a screening of The Nubian Spirit, a documentary by Nuakai Aru. Nuakai is a young British filmmaker who is addressing gaps in education and history when it comes to portraying the African continent.
