A LONG-awaited book about the Monmouthshire village of Llansoy has been published by the community.

‘Llansoy-Our village. A Miscellany of History and Reminiscenses’ is the result of a project that was born in 2005.

The 200-page book features articles on the village’s history and reminiscences of life in past times and paints a vivid picture of a vibrant, self-sufficient village community.

The idea for the book arose after local historian and archivist, Annette Burton and publisher, Jane Kennedy compiled the Llansoy Community Archive of 200 photo’s for an exhibition about the village and its history. The research carried out for the exhibition provided the basis for a book about Llansoy and the idea evolved into a project that involved 34 contributors, who live in Llansoy, or have moved away but still have fond memories of the village.

The third editor, Margaret Reece, joined the project in 2011, and encouraged people to write down their memories of life in the village.

The book includes the village's ancient yew tree, Llansoy School and lost landmarks such as the Llansoy Cross and Tithe Barn as well as the community between the two World Wars and during the 1950’s. It also features 100 images and illustrations dating back to 1900, together with documents and maps.

Proceeds from the sales of the book will be donated to St Tysoi Church.

‘Llansoy – Our Village’ costs £10 from Mrs J. Kennedy on 01291 650444 or Mrs A.M. Burton on 01291 623804.
