CHANGES to some GCSE exams in Wales have been outlined for teachers by the exam board WJEC today (Monday).

Teachers can download specifications and specimen assessment material for GCSE English literature, English language, Welsh literature, Welsh language, maths and numeracy, as well as AS and A-level art and design, biology, business, chemistry, computer science, economics, English language, English language and literature, English literature, history, physics, psychology, sociology and Welsh first language.

Following a review of qualifications for 14 to 19-year-olds in Wales two years ago, the WJEC has been working with Welsh Government, teachers and members of the higher education sector to create "relevant and stimulating qualifications" for young people in Wales, the exam board has said.

They will be holding more than 500 information sessions with teachers across Wales at no charge.

WJEC chief executive Gareth Pierce said: “We have been in close discussion with Welsh Government throughout to ensure our reformed qualifications meet their requirements of rigour and robustness, while reflecting the educational ethos of inclusion and responding effectively to the needs of a bilingual nation.”

WJEC was the only exam board to take up the Welsh Government’s invitation to create "reformed" GCSEs and A levels for schools and colleges in Wales, it has said.

There are also four new Welsh Baccalaureate specifications.
