MONMOUTH School has selected its 37th headmaster.

The Governors of the Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools have appointed Dr Andrew Daniel to succeed Dr Steven Connors who will take up the post in September 2015.

Dr Daniel is currently the senior deputy head at Wellington School, Somerset, a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 2-18.

A former pupil of Atlantic College, Dr Daniel graduated with a starred first in geophysical sciences from the University of East Anglia and University of Washington, Seattle. He was awarded his doctorate from Liverpool University on the mathematical modelling of plate tectonics in Patagonia.

Prior to Wellington School, Dr Daniel gained wide teaching experience both in the UK as Head of Mathematics at Taunton School and in Switzerland, where he was responsible for the academic life of Aiglon College.

Married to Alison, an oceanographer, the couple has a ten year old daughter and eight year old son.

Mr Sheridan Swallow, chairman of the board of governors said: “Andrew Daniel is ideally equipped to build on the strong foundations put in place by Dr Steven Connors during his ten years in post.”

“He is joining us at an exciting time as we celebrate the School’s 400th anniversary and the achievements of our pupils, both in and out of the classroom.”

Dr Daniel added: “I am delighted and privileged to be asked to lead Monmouth School at such an exciting time in its history.

“The School is clearly positive and ambitious for its future, and I will strive to deliver the best possible all-round education for the boys of Monmouth School, building on the excellent work of Dr Connors.”
