STAR gymnast Frankie Jones has been appointed as athlete advisor on the Commonwealth Games Wales Board.

The 24 year old scooped six medals and a David Dixon Award recognising her as the outstanding athlete of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games this summer.

Her dad Colin is from Pontypool and she visited budding gymnasts at Pontypool Active Living Centre in September.

She said: “I am proud and honoured to be appointed the Athletes Advisor to the Commonwealth Games Wales Board.

“During my competitive career I have had the honour of representing Wales at three consecutive games and I can honestly say they are the competitions that hold the strongest and most amazing memories of my 18 years of participation in gymnastics.”

Chris Jenkins, the chief executive of Commonwealth Games Wales, added: “I am delighted and look forward to working with Frankie as athletes’ views are central to our decisions.

“We will also be forming an Athletes' Commission from athletes nominated by Commonwealth sports with Frankie as chair”.
