A NUMBER of geese and chickens have died after a barn caught fire in Tredegar last night.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) crews from Ebbw Vale, Tredegar and Aberbargoed attended the fire at Ton y Fedw in Tredegar, at around 10.50pm.
On arrival, SWFRS said crews were faced with a barn “well alight” and dozens of animals, including chickens, pigs, and geese, were trapped inside.
At 11.35pm, crews reported all the pigs had been rescued from the fire, which involved a steel and wooden barn.
The fire was finally reported under control at 1.16am having used two hosereel jets and a water bowser to extinguish the flames.
A spokeswoman for SWFRS later confirmed that “a number of geese and chickens had been lost to the fire”.
Crews will return to the site of the fire this morning. Its cause has not yet been established.
