BLAENAVON singer Cai Williams has said he is “over the moon” after being picked by Tom Jones to go to progress to the battle stage of The Voice.

Sir Tom turned for him as he performed the James Bond hit License to Kill on the BBC One talent contest on Saturday night.

The Welsh singing legend complimented the recording artist and model on his “powerful voice”.

Mr Williams, aged 34, called the experience "surreal".

"To get a turn from Sir Tom Jones, who is a legend, was amazing," he said. "I’m on cloud nine.”

The dental assistant turned entertainer said he had been celebrating going through to the next stage with numerous friends.

Mr Williams previously turned down opportunities to appear on talent shows like the X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent but said he felt The Voice was different because it puts substance over style.

He appeared in the fourth round of blind auditions with coaches Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Ricky Wilson and Rita Ora attempting to build a 12-strong team.

A talent show spokeswoman said Mr Williams had performed at a lot of the same venues as Tom Jones over the years and was often described as a younger version.

He has already recorded three albums and previously performed the Gladys Knight song License to Kill as part of his own solo show The Power Within.

He added: “To perform that with a live band on television was a thrill. It’s a favourite of mine.”

The show spokeswoman said Mr Williams had a very strong image adding that he constantly reinvented himself by looking different.
