100 years ago At the Tredegar police court a local man was charged with deserting his wife and seven children after leaving them to co-habit with another woman, at the time the prisoner was earning £6 a week.
The prisoner was committed for a month’s hard labour and ordered to pay his wife £2 a week backdated to the day that he left.
It was announced that a South Wales Argus fund would be opened to provide footballs for soldiers after officers of regiments at the front explained that they encouraged their soldiers to play for recreation and exercise when not in combat.
