A PONTNEWYNYDD woman celebrated turning 100 yesterday.
Nellie Lenton, who lives at the Ty Ceirios Nursing Home on Pentrepiod Road, was originally born in Cornwall and moved to South Wales when she was 19 years old.
Her granddaughter Jane Clifford, who lives in Llanelli, said Mrs Lenton had worked at the Girlings site in Cwmbran but gave up work when she was in her forties because she was convinced she was suffering from an illness.
But her granddaughter said: “She’s said she’s unwell since she was in her forties — and now she’s 100. I think she causes a lot of trouble! She has one-on-one care so she gets a lot of attention.”
She was married twice. Her first husband died aged only 26 after suffering from pneumonia.
She has two sons and another granddaughter, Susan, who is a teacher in London.
