AN ABERGAVENNY school is quite literally flying the flag for Monmouthshire.

Llanfoist Fawr Primary was chosen by Monmouth MP David Davies to represent the constituency and design a flag that represents their area or community in the 2015 Flag Project.

The school was one of 650 in the UK to take part in the nationwide parliamentary project to celebrate two historic anniversaries this year - the 800th year of the sealing of the Magna Carta and the 750th anniversary of the Simon de Montfort parliament.

The design by year six pupils features the iconic Monnow Bridge in colours representing both Wales and Monmouthshire.

The flag features on an online digital exhibition and will be stitched into large flags to fly at two special events in Parliament Square.

Class teacher, Matt Davies said: β€œIt was an honour to be selected as the school to represent Monmouthshire in this exciting project. Through their research, children have learnt a great deal about the democratic foundations of our country. We are all very excited about the prospect of seeing our flag fly.”
