A SPRING dinner held by the Newport Chamber of Trade has helped bring the city's mayor's charity total to more than £40,000.

Mayor Matthew Evans has been raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Newport Sea Cadets throughout his year in office.

More than 100 people from the Newport business community attended the dinner held at Junction 28 restaurant in Bassaleg.

Cllr Evans said: "I would like to thank the Chamber of Trade for organising the spring dinner and for Junction 28 for hosting the evening which was a tremendous success and thoroughly enjoyable.

“I would also like to extend my thanks to those who attended and donated so generously and thank those who have donated to my two charities throughout the course of my year in office.”

The evening raised a total of £1,800 and the mayor has now raised more than £40,000.
