FUNDRAISING is taking place across Gwent for our 125 Appeal.

One company that decided to get into the mood for summer and get out their flip-flops was Henry Howard Finance Group in Langstone, Newport.

The sun might have taken a break to make way for some rain, but that didn’t dampen the mood at the finance providers’ flip-flop Friday event.

Maria Ross, group marketing manager, said: “We thought it was a good cause, and we support a lot of local charities and there were a lot of willing people that wanted to take part.

“We would do quite a few bake-offs, sponsored walks and sporting events. We have dress down Friday anyway, so it was easy for people to add a pair of flip-flops to their outfit.”

The South Wales Argus team also got their flip-flops on to raise some money for the appeal which goes towards supporting the work of St David’s Hospice Care, the UK’s largest provider of hospice at home care.

The hospice, which is based in Newport, works alongside patients to support them at the most difficult times of their lives.

Staff at the Newport Newquest offices, where the South Wales Argus is based, also took part in a raffle that included a range of prizes including a donation from local fish and chips shop Sheppards Fish Bar in Maesglas.

Over £160 was raised on the day by staff who took part in the raffle and those that made donations to wear their flip-flops to work for the day.

South Wales Argus editor Nicole Garnon said: “We wanted to do something fun to raise money for the appeal. This is the first of many fundraising activities we will be doing. Several staff took part and we had some great prizes in the raffle. We look forward to raising more money.

We are recruiting people from all over the region to take part in this special appeal that will help the St David’s Hospice Care.

We are especially looking for fundraising ideas along the 125 theme. You could dance for 125 minutes, do 125 star jumps – we welcome all your fundraising ideas.
