TWO teenagers arrested over the stabbing of a donkey at a Gwent farm have been released without charge.

Two 17-year-old boys arrested over Christmas were bailed pending forensic examinations and have now been released without further action, police said.

Gwent Police said there had not been any other arrests in connection with the stabbing at the farm on November 29.

Cheeky the donkey had been due to star in a Christmas show at Greenmeadow Community Farm in Cwmbran when she was knifed 12 times.

The 23-year-old jenny has made a full recovery and starred in an Easter bonnet parade at the farm yesterday.

The attack sickened and shocked staff and visitors.

The farm received messages of support from all over the world including Japan and Canada after the night time stabbing, as well as donations which enabled their CCTV and security to be upgraded.

Farm manager Sally Partridge, 38, said: “Cheeky is doing really well.

“She has recovered from her wounds.

“We were concerned it would have an effect on her personality but she has returned to her former self.

“We at the farm, as so many members of the community, were horrified by what happened.”

She said she still hopes someone will be brought to book for the attack.

“In an ideal world, we would like to see somebody prosecuted for that – but certainly the fact that Cheeky is alive and well is a blessing,” she added.

The attack on Cheeky was still shocking parents spending their Easter Monday at the site yesterday.

Mum-of-two Beth Matthews, 39, said yesterday: “ It breaks my heart.”

Mum-of-three Amy Reynolds, 30, said: “It’s awful. I’ve got horses myself. I was really upset when that happened. It’s sick.”

Mum-of-one Jo Ashton, 34, said: “It’s lucky that she recovered.”

Police officers are still appealing for information about the incident and urging the public to contact them on 101 quoting the log reference number 136 29/11/14.
