GWENT Police are urging members of the public to be vigilant of a possible scam involving a man claiming to be selling watches.

A man was approached on Penallta Road in Ystrad Mynach on Tuesday morning (May 12) by a man in a car who said he was lost and asked for directions, and that his company were in the area as they were opening a shop selling watches.

He offered the victim four watches to thank him, said that his bank card was broken and asked to borrow money for petrol.

The victim gave him £20 even though the man said he wanted £100. The man has been seen in different areas of Ystrad Mynach on Wednesday and again on Friday morning (May 15) appearing to be approaching people in the same way.

The man appears to be alone in the car and is driving a Ford Fiesta Zetec BC14 JCX.

He is described as aged 25-30 years old, smartly dressed, slicked black hair and speaking with a foreign- possibly Italian -accent

Police are urging residents not to part with any money but to call Police on 101 quoting log 114 15/5/15
