NEWPORT'S Bangladeshi Community Office received a visit from Sir Menzies Campbell yesterday, leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Sir Ming looked around the centre, on Methuen Road, to meet the founding members.

Members of the Bangladeshi community highlighted difficulties experienced by immigrants seeking help.

Sir Menzies visit was in support of Ed Townsend and Mike German, the Liberal Democrat candidates for Newport East and South Wales East in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Other candidates standing for the Newport East seat are Mike Blundell (English Democrat); John Griffiths (Labour); James Harris (Independent); Trefor Puw (Plaid); Peter Fox (Conservative).

A total of 59 candidates are fighting for the four South Wales East regional seats - one independent, six Liberal Democrats, eight Conservatives, four from the Welsh Christian Party, four representing the United Kingdom Independence Party, five Socialist Labour, four from Plaid Cymru, five Labour, four Greens, 10 English Democrats, four from the Community Party of Britain, and four from the British National Party.
