AN OVERTURNED trailer caused three-mile tailbacks on the Malpas straight section of the M4 eastbound on Saturday.
At around 2.20pm a catering trailer became detached from its vehicle, which left the motorway and went over an embankment, shortly before junction 26.
The overturned trailer blocked the inside and centre lanes for 90 minutes as police completed a recovery operation. A Traffic Wales spokesman said congestion stretched back to junction 28.
Inspector Sian Flynn from the Gwent Police force control room said no one was injured and the cause of the accident is still being investigated.
