GWENT Police charged a 36-year-old man with the attempted rape of a woman as she walked in the Shaftesbury area of Newport.
The alleged attack on the 21-year-old woman, who was walking near the Sainsbury's supermarket in Wyndham Street, occurred at around 5am on Sunday, April 1.
The man, from the Newport area, was remanded in custody and will appear before the city's magistrates on Monday
