FIREFIGHTERS took nearly four hours to tackle a blaze in a rubbish depot in Newport on Saturday night.
The fire took hold of around 80 tonnes of refuse at the civic amenity site in off the Southern Distributor Road in Maesglas.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service were alerted at just after 8pm.
A spokesman said although the blaze was extinguished just before midnight, firefighters continued working through the night to "dampen down hot spots in the rubbish".
Inspector Sian Flynn from the Gwent Police force control room said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
