POLICE cordoned off an area of Ebbw Vale after a 22-year-old woman was subjected to a "terrifying" sex attack in the early hours of Saturday.
Detectives are urgently trying to trace a man wearing dark clothing who assaulted the woman as she walked along a cycle path behind Beaufort Hill Primary School at around 1am.
Locals said police were continuing to comb the track, known locally as Black Path', for clues on Sunday afternoon. The woman was walking between Brynmawr and Beaufort.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sutton, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a particularly terrifying ordeal for the young woman who is traumatised by the incident.
"I would appeal for anyone with information, no matter how insignificant they think it is, to contact Ebbw Vale CID on 01633 838111."
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said the suspect was white, between 20 and 40 years old, approximately five foot eight, and with short dark hair.
Anyone with information or who was in the area at the time should call Gwent Police on 01633 838111 or Crimestoppersanonymously on 0800 555 111.
