CONSECRATION: The vicar of Gilwern, the Rev. Annette Francis recently led a service of consecration at the new Memorial Garden at Llanelly Cemetery in Church Road, Gilwern, attended by community councillors and officers of Monmouthshire County Council.

Tom James from the Bryn y Cwm area team said: "There are plans to enlarge the cemetery and this is the first stage to be completed.

Local residents have long awaited the opportunity to lay to rest the ashes of their loved ones in the place they called home. The new garden of remembrance is large enough for 100 plots.

"Each plot has space for a memorial plaque of 450mm x 450mm. A hedge surrounds the garden and the plots are in sections divided by grass paths. From the bench under a tree one can absorb the quiet and tranquil setting: on a hillside near the church, and appreciate the beautiful view over the Usk Valley."
