CHARITY MARCH: Three men and a babe are walking their way to raising a lot of money for a little-known charity.

Samantha Dodd of Park Lane, Abergavenny decided to join her uncle Charles Thomas and two friends - Reinhold Labisch and Steve Hitchman - on a trek along Offa's Dyke.

But she thought it would be a fitting tribute to her late father Richard, a former mayor of the town, who died suddenly six years ago aged 52 from pulmonary hypertension. So their 180-mile marathon walk has turned into a sponsored walk for the pulmonary hypertension association.

Already they have raised far more than Samantha dreamed. " We are into four figures and the money is still coming in," she said.

The intrepid quartet set off on Easter Day to walk the 18 miles from Sedbury Beach near Chepstow to Monmouth, and the following day it was a 24-mile trek to Llanthony and Steve's ten year old son Tomos gamely walked the first eight miles with them.

Last Sunday they returned to Llanthony to resume where they had left off and completed another 18 miles to Newchurch, and next Sunday (April 29) their walk will continue to Knighton where the Offa's Dyke Centre is based.

Between May 6 - 10 they will complete their trek, ending in Prestatyn, and they are already planning a reception for everyone who has helped them in September when all the money they have collected will be presented to the PHA.

Richard Dodd's widow Margaret has organised a coffee morning in the Priory Centre on Saturday (April 28) from 10.30am to help boost the funds.
