Monmouthshire County Council Chairman, Councillor Alan Breeze hosted a buffet supper last week to thank volunteers and staff for their hard work at the Borough Theatre in Abergavenny.

The chairman thanked his guests and said that it was a pleasure to host the dinner and to be able to thank them personally. He also said that "without volunteers this theatre would not exist and that volunteers have saved the council many thousands of pounds over the years and that the council would forever be in their debt."

The Borough Theatre has seven paid staff, but also more than 40 volunteers who help out with both backstage and front of house activities, from selling ice creams to scenery painting.

Mrs Adoree Flower has been involved with the Borough Theatre since she was three years old and has appeared on stage at the theatre many times.

Asked why she gave her time to the theatre she said "It is my love of the theatre, and especially the Borough Theatre.

"I have been a volunteer and involved in the Management Committee since 1985. We worked very hard back then to persuade the council to pay for its refurbishment.

Theatre Manager, Nick Banwell said of his willing army of volunteers "This theatre would be closed if not for their hard work. Their dedication always amazes me."

The Borough Theatre is always looking for more volunteers. If you are interested in helping out in any way, please contact the Front of House Manager on 01873 735835 for more information.
