BOXING gloves worn by world champion Joe Calzaghe, rugby memorabilia and flying lessons are just some of the prizes going under the hammer at a charity auction in aid of a terminally ill Gwent boy.

Former Wales rugby star Jonathan Davies will host the cure4rhys charity auction on Sunday at the Hilton Hotel, in Cardiff.

The event will raise money for six-year-old Rhys Harris, from Pentwynmawr, Newbridge, who suffers from an extremely rare genetic disease that leaves him with practically no immune system.

His only chance of survival is a bone marrow transplant.

Guest auctioneer Jonathan Davies will be running the show and hopefully raising many hundreds of pounds for the cure4rhys charity.

Among the list of top lots up for grabs are the gloves worn by Joe Calzaghe when he successfully defended his WBO super middleweight title against American Peter Manfredo this month.

For the rugby enthusiasts there are signed goodies from Wales, the Dragons and the Ospreys.

There is also a limited edition pair of framed Gren prints, a golf session at Newport's Celtic Manor; pampering days, £600 worth of perfume, a James Bond Day, flying lessons and signed Sterophonics merchandise among many other things.

Mum Dawn Harris said: "It will be a really fun night and there is something for everyone at the auction.

"So many people have been very generous in donating the prizes so we want to make as much money as we can."

The evening will include a three-course meal and live band.

The dress code is formal, the night starts at 6pm and tickets are £45 with all money going to the cure4rhys appeal.

Tables can seat 10 people and for further information, ring Kevin or Dawn Harris on 01495 240834 or email cure4rhys@gmail.com.
