It was started by Rosemary Butler, AM, and any woman who lives in Newport and is aged over 18 years can apply. Application forms will be available from a number of sources in the next couple of weeks, including Newport library, Newport Centre, community education centres and from Rosemary's office.

If you would like further information about the bursary please contact Rosemary Butler on 01633 222523.

YOUNG PEOPLE: It's great to see the drama and theatre club up and running again at the Town Hall. Many talented young people have passed through its doors over the years and gone on to success.

Other clubs in Caerleon include the dance club, youth clubs, Caerleon Football Club, Caerleon Rugby Club, Newport HSOB Rugby Club, cricket club, as well as Scouts, Cubs, Brownies, golf, tennis, AFC, and more. Our young people are busy being useful, learning important life skills, and contributing to our community.

CAERLEON ENDOWED JUNIOR SCHOOL: Congratulations to the school's gymnasts, who were recently awarded fourth place in the Urdd Championships at Aberystwyth, the boys' five-a-side football team for winning the Newport Indoor Championship again, and the girls' team for winning the area Urdd soccer tournament. What excellent achievements!

These teams are looking for sponsorship, so if you would like to help please contact Nick Vittle, head teacher, on 01633 420411.

Congratulations also to Emma Smith for being a winner in the Black History poetry competition, and to Harry Adams, Olivia Ashill and Ella Russell, who took part in a film with Simon Weston as part of Caerleon Museum's centenary celebrations.

ST CADOC'S AND CAERLEON METHODIST CHURCHES: Easter is the most important time of year for Christians, and St Cadoc's Church and Caerleon Methodist Church have been well attended over the Easter period. Both churches are also busy trying to raise money for their restoration funds, which are greatly needed.

If you would like to help with fundraising activities or make a donation please contact Canon Arthur Edwards, St Cadoc's Church, or June Davies, Caerleon Methodist Church (tel: 01633 420225).

HIGHWAYS: High Street works have been successfully completed during the Easter holidays, a week earlier than planned.

The resurfacing will ensure that the surface water problems will be relieved for local residents, pedestrians and tourists in the area.
