The Christian Peoples Alliance is part of a long European tradition; Wales' cultural heritage has been rooted in Christianity for seventeen hundred years.

In the census of 2001, 72 percent of us in the Welsh population chose to describe themselves as Christian.

The CPA want to defend Wales' Christian heritage in our public life.

We want to safeguard and uphold the Christian voice of conscience, ensuring active social justice in the Welsh Assembly, who will have increasing legislative powers as time goes on.

Sir Winston Churchill said "Religion has been a rock in the life and character of the British people upon which they have built their hope and cast their cares".

The 2001 census statistics show that this is still true in Wales; as many of us can see, we live in a society with so much lack of hope; where divorce is increasing at alarming rates; where abortion of a child is legal and obtained on demand, and debt, poverty and social injustice still exist on our doorstep.

CPA wish to offer hope and uphold our Christian traditions in public life. We have policies on all issues facing Wales in our party manifesto Six immediate commitments are: * Establish a Church Social Action Fund that will match the funding already provided by churches to reach out to excluded and vulnerable people.

* Revive retain and support Christian assemblies for our children in schools using church resources.

* Create a National Centre to celebrate the Christian heritage of Wales.

* Use of 0.1% of Assembly budget to tackle starvation in the developing world and make poverty history.

* National Assembly sessions to begin with Christian prayer.

* End public funding of abortion as a form of contraception and campaign for a review of the existing law. Take steps to end discrimination against doctors and nurses not wanting to be involved in anti-life measures for reasons of conscience. Promote alternatives to abortion.
