MOTORISTS travelling to work in the Abergavenny area face long delays after two incidents led to traffic chaos.
At about 6.30am there was an oil spill on the A40 which closed the eastbound carriageway of Monmouth Road between the A4042 at Abergavenny and the A449 at Raglan.
Shortly afterwards, there was an accident which completely closed the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road between the main roundabout leading to Brynmawr and the Hardwick roundabout in Abergavenny.
A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said a car had gone off the road. A male driver was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg.
Drivers were caught up in miles of tailbacks as a result.
Another oil spill in Monmouthshire also led to the closure of part of the A449, known locally as Trellech Road, towards Chepstow.
That incident happened at around 8am.
* Traffic coming into Gwent was also being diverted over the old Severn Bridge because of an accident on the English side of the Second Severn Crossing.
