A GIRL was allegedly raped by an Abertillery man in an industrial unit, a court heard.

The teenager said Mark Mayne, 40, had a mattress in the upstairs section of the unit on an Ebbw Vale industrial estate.

Ex-martial arts instructor Mayne, a cabinet maker of Adams Street, Abertillery, has pleaded not guilty to 26 charges, 13 of which alleged that he raped five girls.

He also denies further charges of indecent assault, indecency with a child, attempting to procure a miscarriage, sexual activity with a girl and sexual intercourse with a girl under 13.

The girl said before he allegedly raped her, Mayne had a glass of gin and she also had "a couple of swigs."

The witness told the jury at Cardiff crown court: "He raped me. He asked me to go to his unit at Ebbw Vale."

She said she went there with another teenager.

The witmess said: "He and the other girl went off for about 15 minutes. She came back and said 'now it's your turn.'"

Prosecutor Ieuan Morris warned the jury during his opening that they would find the details of the case "shocking and vile." He added: "This is a serious, alarming and disturbing case.

"He preyed on these girls and made threats to them."

Mr Morris said that Mayne took "perverted pleasure" in watching some of the girls adopt erotic poses and he encouraged them to be sexually familiar with one another.

The allegations came to light when one of the girls complained to her mother with the result that the other five came forward.
