As a Labour Party member for 30 years, I have a strong commitment to its core values of social and economic justice for all.

With some 15 years experience as an elected member of a Local Authority (Torfaen CBC) with Cabinet Member experience, I believe I have the ability, experience and enthusiasm to be an effective representative for South East Wales in the Welsh Assembly and pledge to work to improve the social, economic and environmental well-being of the area.

I have a strong interest in Welsh affairs and am committed to strong partnership working between local government, the voluntary sector, the business community and the Assembly to meet the needs of the communities of South East Wales.

I promise to work for:
* More investment in education, training, and skills development as the key to prosperity and to tackling social deprivation with an emphasis on early years, school building improvement and vocational skill development.

* A vibrant mixed economy with a dynamic private sector focusing on the high added value services and manufacturing as the engine for job creation, wealth creation and economic growth.

* An increase in the supply of affordable homes for rent and purchase.

* Better public transport and transport infrastructure and cheaper road access across the river Severn.

* Strong local democracy and partnership working between local government, the voluntary sector, the business sector and the Assembly as the way to delivering social, economic and environmental improvements for SE Wales.

* Improved health and well-being outcomes for the community through better primary and secondary care services and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

* In improvement in the built environment and the protection of the natural environment with a real commitment to sustainable development.
