A FIFTEEN-hour charity spin-a-thon was held at a Newport gym to raise money for a charity which helps people with life-threatening illnesses.
Held from 6am to 9pm, the arduous 15-hour event was inspired by PureGym member Chris Speight to help raise money for St David’s Hospice.
“I’ve tried to actively support the charity over the last 18 months as they are a local charity for Newport and the surrounding area”, said Mr Speight, a keen fundraiser.
"St David’s have to raise something in the region of 80 to 90 per cent of the money required to run the hospice themselves so by running the Spin-a-thon for them we will help them to reach their targets.”
Staff were on hand throughout the day to collect donations, while PureGym members attended the club event.
Martyn Wheeler, PureGym Newport’s manager, said: “As a company PureGym are constantly attempting to raise money for local charities and after consultation with the team we decided a Spin-a-thon would be a great way to engage our members, whilst raising money for a worthwhile cause.”
