A POLICE OFFICER was injured in an incident in Cwmbran at the weekend.
Police had been called to the scene near the Odd Fellow’s Arms pub after reports of a ‘disturbance’ on Commercial Street in Pontnewydd at 11.43pm on Saturday night.
The officer was injured after allegedly being in collision with a car.
The area was cordoned off until the early hours of the morning as police investigated the scene.
A spokesman from Gwent Police said: “One of our officers (pedestrian) was involved in a road traffic collision - the vehicle involved was a white Ford Kuga.
“The officer was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with foot injuries and later released
“A 49-year-old man from Pontypool was arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle dangerously and bailed to appear at Caerphilly Magistrates Court on August 27.”
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman added: “We were called shortly after midnight on Sunday, August 9, to a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian on Commercial Street in Pontnewydd.
“We sent a rapid response car and an emergency ambulance to the scene, and one person was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital.”
