Firefighters tackle 40,000 tonne woodchip fire at Newport Docks

All fire crews have now left the scene at Newport Docks and will reinspect the site at midday.

The 40,000 tonnes of woodchip alight at a recycling centre at Newport Docks is being dug out with a digger and fire crews are damping down hotspots.

NEWPORT fire crews are tackling a fire of 40,000 tonnes of woodchippings at the city's docks.
Firefighters from Duffryn and Maindee are at a factory and have been there since 4.04am.
The factory's staff are using a digger to turn over the wood as firefighters continue to tackle the blaze.
