Representatives from the Green Gym have just returned from a couple of days in London, following the invitation to attend the prize-giving of its National Green Hero award, at the Royal Apartments in St James Palace, along with other award winners from across the UK.

The awards are part of BTCV annual Spring Into Action Events, which run throughout May.

Clive Ward who nominated the group was so pleased that judges initiallyawarded the group as "Green Gym of theYear"for Wales.

You can join them to receive and celebrate this award as they go to a BTCV Spring into Action Event at Margam Park, near Port Talbot, on Thursday.

As nominator, Clive could not believe when the group was further judged nationally as being Green Gym of the Year in recognition of commitment to running an exceptional Green Gym.

This reflects over three years' work, workingwith many partner organisations to encourage interest in the local environment through light exercise seekingto promote healthy life-styles and eating.

The Group particularly values working at the Owl Sanctuary, Roseheyworth Community Woodland, their own allotment project in Roseheyworth.

Currently the group is running a Tomato Growing Challengewith local schools and youth clubs.

So members of the group tooka well earned break to go to London to pick up their award.

In good Green Gym tradition the members had a good walk round many of the famous London sites, before going to St James Palace to meet the Duke of Edinburgh!

To see photographs and hear how members of Blaenau Gwent impacted the prize presentation... come along to one of our celebration events!

You can join us on Thursday 24th for our visit to Margam Park or join us for a celebration drink and evening walk on Thursday, June 7.
