A CHARITY fundraiser in Newport will once again be welcoming visitors into her home after transforming it into a winter wonderland.

Stow Hill resident Sheila Gill, 75, has raised thousands of pounds for charities, and for the past three years has opened up her home to families across Newport to explore spectacular decorations and meet Father Christmas.

This year the grand switch-on of the Christmas lights will take place on November 29 at 4pm and will stay illuminated until 8pm. The lights will be once again be switched on by Newport boxer Sean McGoldrick.

As always the house and garden has been transformed with hundreds of lights.

But in a bid to smash last year’s £5,000 raised for five local charities, Mrs Gill said they have doubled the amount of lights and decorations and said there will be more surprises and additions, including a log cabin.

It has taken more than 10 weeks to put up and it is due to be finished by Wednesday, ahead of the grand switch on.

This year the money raised will go to the HCPT the Pilgrimages Trust, Macmillan Cancer support, St David's Hospice Care and St Anne’s Hospice.

Entry to the display at 224 Stow Hill is £2 and is open seven days a week from 4pm to 8pm.
