CIVIL SERVICE CLUB: The 2006/7 soccer season has brought success to the Civil Service Club by winning the First Division of the Gwent County League, with thoughts of the Third Division, Welsh League status, with a proviso of ground facilities being accepted.

The past rugby players were great winners of awards, but without youth policy closure was inevitable then, but well done to them all, also men and women's baseball sides, you are a proud nation.

This is the first time in the club's history of 75 years, to be celebrated later this year, that so much success has accrued.

Frank would like to thank Tony, the secretary, the youth section is going great, but a special one to Ben Burrows, team manager, and to his wife, Jane, the stewardess, who have both worked very hard, also for bookings for functions, etc, so a big hand also to their bar staff for their great loyalty.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH EXPEDITION: The Duke of Edinburgh project is for all young people, whatever their background, between the ages of 14 and 25. It also gives them opportunities for personal achievements.

During the Easter break, young people from the Bettws area had the opportunity to participate in their bronze award for the expedition section.

The young people spent two days and one night on a camping expedition, based at Cwm Hedd in Bassaleg. The young people had the experience of camp craft and equipment, plus cooking their own food, and hygiene.

They also gained skills in navigation and route planning. They showed that they had commitment and stamina, and I would like to thank them all for their time and effort and congratulate them on their achievements. They are Derrie Ormond, Stephen Peel, Tom Sully, Darryl Taylor, Christen Ormond and Daniel Ormond.

BETTWS YOUTH FORUM: A youth forum was formed by the Bettws Communities First youth worker three months ago as it is one of the targets for Bettws community and the WAG.

It is for young people to establish a means to have a voice in their own community and youth affairs, in addition to playing a full part in the work of Newport Youth Council and the Funky Dragon.

At the first meeting, the young people came up with a name, Bet You Can!, which was the first three letters from Bettws and the first three from youth and, as we are a positive group, we put can.

This group have attended meetings at Monnow youth and community centre, and also a youth council meeting at the Civic Centre where the young people expressed their views on a skate park and also a second Welsh school coming to the west side of Newport.

MORFA BAY, PENDINE: During the Easter break, the youth forum young people attended a two-day residential at Morfa Bay Outdoor Centre, in Pendine, Pembroke.

We held a programme of activities alongside youth forum training which empowers the young people to run a forum. The group also voted on roles and responsibilities, like who will be chair, etc.

The young people really enjoyed climbing the high ropes and zip wire and the next day we were canoeing in the sea, and all of the young people completed the assault course before we left.

If any young person would like to be involved in these projects please contact Jan Cleverly on 821417
