THE baby who was found dead on Friday was a newborn, police have said.
Gwent Police said the result of the post mortem examination carried out today confirms that this was a newborn baby, that would have been born at, or around full term.
They said the death is still being treated as unexplained and they main concern is to trace the mother.
Police were called to land near Imperial Park in Coedkernew after the baby's body was discovered at around 1.55pm on Friday.
Gwent Police have released a video appealing for the mother of the baby to get in contact with them on 07646653227.
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: "We will not be confirming any further information about the baby at this stage as we want the mother to make contact with us and let us know her wishes."
"Please do not call the number mentioned in the video under any circumstances. This line must be kept free for the mother to make contact."
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 207 29/01/16
