A MONMOUTHSHIRE teenager is about to release his first song after recording with the same producer as the Manic Street Preachers.

Chris Williams, 17, of Gilwern, is a singer-songwriter and plays a mixture of indie pop/rock with his band The Attix.

He has been working with music producer Greg Haver, who has produced The Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals, Catatonia at Modern World Studios in Gloucestershire. Chris' song 'Like A Stone' which he wrote when he was 16 will be released as a single on April 8.

He said: "I'm really excited about the release of the single. Loads of people have been saying really good things about it already.

"It is absolutely amazing working with Greg, he has worked with loads of different artist. I never thought I'd get to work with someone who has had the experience he has had.

"It's unbelievable - he is a really good influence. He has completely transformed the song."

The A-Level student who is studying business and law at college said he feels so lucky to have had this opportunity to record his own song.

He said: "I didn't think I would get anywhere in music as there are a lot of people trying. This has really pushed me forward to do bigger and bigger things."

Chris came in contact with the record producer after Mr Haver's step-mother Gill visited a phone shop in Hay-on-Wye where Chris' father Dean Williams was working.

Mr Williams said he showed Mrs Haver how to get on the internet on her phone with a video of his son playing.

He said: "She said he was really good and that her son had something to do with the music industry.

"She came back into the shop and gave me his email, Facebook and phone number. I didn't think anything would come of it -a few weeks went by so I googled his name and realised it was Greg Haver the Manic Street Preacher's producer."

Mr Haver who lives in New Zealand came to a sound check before an Attix gig at Gwdihw in Cardiff and told the teenager that 'Like A Stone' was the song he wanted to record.

The teenager performed at his biggest venue to date at a sold out gig at the O2 Academy in Liverpool on Saturday in front of 400 people.
