BLACKWOOD’S favourite sons the Manic Street Preachers have unveiled Wales’ football anthem for Euro 2016 – the nation’s first tournament for 58 years.
The track, entitled 'Together Stronger (C’mon Wales)', celebrates the nation's heroes down through the years, including Gary Speed, Ryan Giggs, Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey.
The stirring lyrics, written by bassist Nicky Wire, include:
-So Come on Ramsey
-Let’s set the world alight
-When Gareth Bale plays
-We can beat any side
In preparation for the Euro finals in France, the Blackwood band met up with Wales' squad and manager, Chris Coleman, to film the accompanying music video.
The video mixes archive heartbreak against Scotland, from 1977 and 1985, with footage from Wales’ glorious qualification campaign for Euro 2016.
Speaking about the collaboration, the Wales manager said: “It was fantastic to be involved with such an iconic Welsh band.
“Manic Street Preachers have been passionate Welsh football supporters and all the lads enjoyed the experience and joined in.”
All profits from the song will go to charity, including the Princes Gate Trust and Tenovus Cancer Care.
The track will be released next Friday at the same time as Manic Street Preacher’s 20th anniversary re-issue of their successful fourth album 'Everything Must Go'.
