GWENT Police want to speak to a group of teenage boys spotted running along a Cwmbran street around the time of a fire which damaged a school in the town last month.

The force is continuing to investigate a fire at St Davids RC primary school on Caldicot Way, Cwmbran, which occurred at around 8pm on Saturday April 30.

The group of five or six boys aged around 14 or 15, were seen running down Afon Terrace. They are described as being white and of slight build, and one was wearing bright orange trainers.

Officers are also keen to speak to a woman who was driving along Edlogan Way towards Cwmbran town centre, approaching the roundabout at the junction with Afon Terrace.

The fire, which sent plumes of black smoke across Cwmbran, was started deliberately.

Firefighters from the Cwmbran, New Inn and Malpas stations spent an hour tackling the fire, which had been started at the back of the school and had spread to the main building.

Parents of pupils at the school subsequently set up a fundraising page - gofundme.com/stdavids - for the school, to help repair the damage.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gwent Police on 101, quoting log number 525 30/04/16.
