A GARNDIFFAITH girl, who gave up her Christmas to help those less fortunate, has organised a sponsored walk with two of her friends.

Madison Preece will be joined by pals Madison David and Melisha Black, all 10, in walking four miles from Garndiffaith to Pontypool on Saturday, May 14.

The Garnteg Primary School pupils have organised the walk themselves, and will split their donations between two charities – one for autism and one for cancer.

Madison Preece’s mum, Hannah Furlow, said: “The girls have organised this all off their own backs, but obviously I will join them so that they are safe.

“The girls are yet to properly decide on the charities that they will be raising money for, although one could be HOPE for autism while the other could be Cancer Research UK or Velindre.”

The girls will be walking from the workmen’s club in Garndiffaith to the Tesco in Pontypool, a route which should take about two hours to complete the four mile course.

The trio will carry buckets during their four-mile walk, which will allow anyone wishing to make a donation to be able to do so.

“They plan to walk towards Talywain, Pontnewynydd and Pontymoile, before completing a loop of Pontypool,” said Miss Furlow, 40, of Earl Close, Garndiffaith.

“Hopefully the weather holds out. The girls will be sticking to the main roads on the route, so High Street in Garndiffaith and Talywain.”

The girls will be starting their walk at 12pm, and hope to finish in the car park at 2pm.
